Watt Energy is an established alternative energy development company with strong demonstrable links to community level beneficiaries.
The company vision is empowered communities via the initiation and establishment of sustainable and economically viable alternative energy production projects that fall within its Key Focus Areas.
Founded in 2008 by well-known South African social entrepreneur Mcebisi Michael Msizi and with its Head Office situated in Port Elizabeth, the company now employs 18 full time staff at three locations across the Eastern Cape province. These locations include the site office managing the Tsitsikamma Centre of Excellence in Energy (TCEE) and a branch office in East London.
The TCEE is home to the uniquely structured Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm site with an implementation budget estimated at approximately one billion South African Rands and a generating capacity of 40 megawatts. The Centre includes plans for showcase biomass and solar plants which are in development.
The company has a further 300 megawatts of projects in the planning stages at the present time with a key objective of leveraging community empowerment, quality job creation, poverty alleviation and rural development mechanisms in this way.
The experienced local management team led and inspired by founder and CEO Mr Msizi has sound community development credentials and was also instrumental in the establishment of the Eastern Cape Community Wind Energy Development Association (ECCWEDA) a NGO that educates and advocates community involvement in renewable energy projects as a means to mainstream economic participation.
