Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm

The Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm project is developed on the Wittekleibosch Farm in Tsitsikamma in the Eastern Cape. Wittekleibosch forms part of 19 farms purchased in 1994 by the Department of Land Affairs on behalf of the Mfengu tribe who was forcibly removed from the area in 1977. The Mfengu comprises four communities of which Wittekleibosch is one.

The Wind Farm was launched in November 2009 and is a joint venture between Watt Energy, Exxaro and The Tsitsikamma Development Trust. The project is currently forecasted to have an installed capacity of 40MW. The 20 x 2MW wind turbines to be erected on site will produce 40MW of electricity which will be pumped into the national grid by 2013.

Given the substantial available wind resource in South Africa wind energy is the core focus of Watt Energy.
